Organic Raw Hazelnuts

Hazelnuts are edible in their raw state, the kernel is around 2.5% water content when dried. They are harvested in mid-autumn and usually the majority of the harvest is not marketed as it comes from 'wild' hazelnut trees.

Hazelnuts are elongated with a rounded base, an outer fleshy husk (commonly called the "husk" or involucre), and a hard inner shell (or nutshell). The nut is formed from the floral disc, a pale yellow development ovule from the flower of the hazel. At maturity, it is 1.5–2 cm long and 1–1.5 cm in diameter, and has a thin, smooth skin, sometimes felted to a light gray on one side.

The hazelnut is a light-brown nut. It is round and an average hazelnut is about 20.5 mm (0.81 inches) in diameter and weighs about 1.7 grams (0.069 ounces). Hazelnuts are grown in more than three-fourths of Europe, western Asia, North America, Central America and South America

Hazelnuts are cultivated in Europe and North America, primarily for their edible seeds and also as ornamental plants. Hazelnuts are influenced to a lesser extent by the geographic features of their location, such as oceanic climate and soil type.

The hazelnut tree is a small shrub native to the temperate northern hemisphere. The nut features prominently in the folklore and mythology of many cultures.
